Core Activities

From Conviction to Action

Our activities are the living expression of our mission. Each programme we run is designed to form persons, strengthen communities, and contribute to the renewal of Catholic and Polish culture in Białystok and beyond. Below you will find the principal activities that define our work.

Religious Formation

Catechesis & Theological Formation

At the heart of our work is systematic catechetical instruction — grounded in the perennial teaching of the Catholic Church and adapted for adults, youth, and families in the Białystok region. Our catechetical programmes are not merely informational but formative: they aim to produce Catholics who know their faith, love it, and live it.

Topics covered include Sacred Scripture, the Creeds, the Sacraments, the Commandments, Catholic social teaching, the history of the Church, and the lives of the saints. Instruction is delivered through regular meetings, retreats, and structured study materials produced by our foundation.

We pay particular attention to forming lay Catholics capable of explaining and defending their faith in the contemporary public square — families, professionals, educators, and young people who carry their convictions into every sphere of life.

Public Education

Public Lectures & Intellectual Debates

Our lecture series brings together scholars, clergy, historians, philosophers, and civic thinkers to address the great questions facing Poland and Christian Europe today. Lectures are open to the public and are designed to be both intellectually rigorous and broadly accessible.

Themes regularly explored include the history of Polish Christianity, Catholic philosophy and political thought, the challenges of secularism and relativism, the nature and defence of the family, the classical tradition in education, and Poland's place in the European and global order.

We also organise structured debates and roundtables that invite participants to engage critically with ideas — developing the capacity for thoughtful public discourse that is increasingly rare in contemporary society. Speakers are drawn from Poland and across Europe, ensuring a breadth of perspective united by a shared commitment to truth and tradition.

Cultural Initiative

Film Club

The Fundacja "Vexilla Regis" Film Club is one of our most distinctive and beloved initiatives. We believe that cinema — at its best — is a profoundly formative art form, capable of conveying moral and spiritual truth in ways that engage the whole person: intellect, imagination, and emotion.

Our film club meets regularly to screen and discuss films of cultural, moral, patriotic, and artistic significance. The selection spans Polish cinema, European classics, and international works — with a particular emphasis on films that illuminate the human condition, explore themes of faith and sacrifice, or portray moments of historical importance to Poland and Christendom.

Each screening is followed by a guided discussion that draws out the film's themes, its historical context, its artistic merits, and its moral dimensions. The film club is open to all and has become a vibrant community of participants who bring their own perspectives and knowledge to each meeting.

Education

Classical Education Programmes

We are committed to recovering and promoting a classical model of education for the contemporary Polish context. This means education that forms the whole person — developing reason, virtue, imagination, and a love of truth and beauty — rather than merely preparing students for the labour market.

Our classical education initiatives include study circles in logic, rhetoric, and philosophy; reading groups engaged with the great works of Polish and Western civilisation; workshops for parents and educators on integrating classical principles into family and school life; and structured programmes for young people that introduce them to the classical tradition in literature, history, and the arts.

We collaborate with educators, families, and institutions who share our conviction that the classical model — far from being outdated — is precisely what Polish society needs to produce persons capable of genuine thought, leadership, and cultural contribution.

Civic Formation

Historical & Civic Awareness

A people without historical memory is a people without identity. FUNDACJA "VEXILLA REGIS" places the cultivation of historical and civic awareness at the centre of its work, convinced that citizens who understand where they come from are better equipped to navigate where they are going.

Our historical and civic programmes include commemorative events on key dates in Poland's national and religious calendar; publications and study materials on Polish and European history; educational initiatives aimed at schools, parishes, and community organisations; and collaboration with historians, archivists, and cultural institutions to ensure accuracy and depth in our historical work.

We also engage with questions of civic life — the nature of political community, the duties of citizenship, the relationship between state and Church, and the principles of subsidiarity and solidarity that underpin a truly human social order.

International Cooperation

European Christian Networking

Poland's Catholic identity is not a merely local or national matter — it is an expression of a civilisational heritage shared with the whole of Christian Europe. FUNDACJA "VEXILLA REGIS" actively cultivates connections with likeminded foundations, organisations, and institutions across the continent.

Our networking activities include participation in international conferences and symposia on Catholic culture and European heritage; bilateral partnerships with foundations in other European countries for the exchange of programmes, speakers, and ideas; and collaborative projects that bring together Catholics from different nations in pursuit of shared cultural and educational goals.

We believe that the renewal of Christian civilisation in Europe requires solidarity among those who share this conviction — across national borders and linguistic divides — and we are committed to being an active and generous partner in that broad, long-term effort.

Culture is built through patient, serious work — one catechesis, one lecture, one film, one conversation at a time. This is our method, and we trust it.
